Adam and Eve Rocks

Adam and Eve Rocks

Adam and Eve site review

As part of my planning of our trips, I never tell Charlene where we are going. She prefers it that way so that each location will be a surprise. But for this spot, this most romantic location in all of Ontario and potentially the world, I had to give her a hint of the attraction that we were going to see weeks ahead of time.

I like these small stops along the way; they break up a long drive and can offer some real uniqueness to our journey. I have to admit that I was on the nervous side considering the last time I took Charlene to see glacial erratics. We left our previous stop and I had to tell Charlene that we were now on our way to the most romantic destination ever. I thought I had masked the nervous tension in my voice. I had no idea what was going through her head when I told her of the romance that was about to be unleashed between us; she doesn't consider me to be very romantic at all.

We are only minutes away from this location and she hasn't said a thing. We drove down a tree filled road that is beautiful in its own right and came to the parking lot. It is a small lot on the side of the road but it is well maintained and even has flowers; I am impressed at the sight. Charlene sees the name of the place, "Adam and Eve Rocks" and still isn't saying too much. I remind her that we are now at the most romantic spot we have ever been or ever will be.

Charlene gets out of the car, slowly. Is she tired from our trip or is she apprehensive on what I am considering to be romantic?

We climb up the ledge and there they are! Two glacial erratic just sitting there being all romantic in the most romantic way glacial erratics can be.

Glacial erratics do abound our area and if you know what to look for, you can spot them whenever you are out hiking. These are rocks that have been picked up by a glacier, carried and then dropped off to their new current location. It is rare to see two similarly sized rocks side by side and that is probably what initially drew people to view these rocks. The story that a couple holding hands and touching each rock will have their relationship blessed, came well after the glaciers melted.

I pointed to the sign that described this folklore and we both held hands and touched the rocks and took pictures.

At the car, Charlene agreed that it was a nice stop but we disagreed on it being the most romantic. Considering that we are still together, still looking forward to being together, still looking forward to the future and all it brings, I think the Adam and Eve Rocks and the blessing caused by touching them, has been the most romantic thing we have ever done.

Location is outside Buckhorn Ontario on Adam and Eve Road.  Google Maps search “Adam and Eve Rock”.

As a side note, I was talking to my wife and she suggested that I put up something for Valentine's Day.  My first thought was this romantic site.  She rolled her eyes.  I can only assume that she was about to faint from the excitement of reliving the memory of visiting this place.
