“Because it is eight hours away,” was my answer to why I picked Chicago for our Christmas vacation. I would continue to explain that I have a two-hour rule for travelling. We can go two hours away each day we have off to explore. Since we have five days off together, Chicago is just over eight hours away and is the perfect distance to explore. Any father, all we are doing is driving and not checking things out.
2024 started as an excellent year for us to travel extensively. The previous year saw us take advantage of my great hours (and time off) as a school bus driver. We were taking every opportunity to see the world, near and far!
Then life happened, which it usually does from time to time, and we barely moved any distance from our home for much of the last half of this year. Now that everything is settling down, it is time to travel. I have been wanting to go to Chicago for some time. The area has some 10,000 murals, public artworks, great museums, and shopping.
I created the map for Blown Away by Christmas in the Windy City for us to follow, including possible murals we could explore and the neighbourhoods these are in. Below is the itinerary for our trip. Feel free to use and modify this for your own personal adventure.
