When travelling in the USA and on our way home, we almost always pass the Buffalo and Erie Country Botanical Gardens. We popped in here on our first-ever trip to the USA, but it is a waste of an excellent attraction just to keep passing it every time now.
Then a surprising thing happened.
At a totally different site, in a totally different country, I decided to get an annual membership to the Royal Botanical Gardens, and it included reciprocal membership to hundreds of other conservatories, gardens and even a few zoos. One of which was the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens.
How could I say no?
Needless to say, I said a very loud yes and got a membership. Now, when we are passing through Buffalo, there is a stop at these gardens.
The best part of these gardens is that there is always some extra show or feature happening, so I am now timing our trips to the area to coincide with their displays. We have been there recently for their orchid show, which was nothing short of amazing. We saw orchids that we had never seen before. There was the main display near the entrance, but others displays would be found throughout the conservatory.
Most recently, and still, as a current event, is the spring bulbs. Tulips, daffodils, and every other spring flower are now proudly and beautifully displayed. Plus, the scent is amazing. Some flowers smell as beautiful as they look.
Places like these are great. There is a calming sensation when we visit gardens, conservatories or even forest hikes. It needs to be experienced, and when visiting these places, the stress melts away. Who can argue with the beauty of a flower?
The Reciprocal Admissions Program is a great way to enhance your favourite green space membership. I created a map of the various sites included in this program. We have already visited a few of them.
Buffalo and Erie Country Botanical Gardens is a smaller size than some similar places, but its location and the rotation of events make getting a membership all the more valuable.
