Wow!

The things kids talk about on the bus!

I am a school bus driver, and I have the privilege of driving these future leaders of our society to school and back every day. I find the bus most peaceful when the children are chatting it up with one another. Usually, this means the bus gets very loud, but it has a pleasant tone.

A small girl, no more than seven years old, grabs the attention of the bus as she recounts her day in class. They had a supply teacher, and we all know the difficulties that students can have with supplies; I know because I am a supply bus driver. One boy in her class is talking rather loudly, disturbing the teaching. The teacher asks the boy, “Are you dying?” Everyone in class is stunned by this question. “Then please die quietly.” The teacher continues with the lesson.

Wow.

I thought that was brutal in its statement, but it effectively quieted the student and the entire class. Even the girl remarked that it was shocking but worked very well.

For the next few days, I would hear the phrase, “Please die quietly,” anytime the bus started to get loud.

The things I hear as a bus driver.

Bravo to the teacher.
