Being a school bus driver is a great job. It is a rewarding experience transporting these future leaders of our society safely to school and back.

As a spare bus driver, I have learned that each school has its own method of loading and unloading the kids. Some are very effective, and some are painfully slow.

I am at my last stop of the morning at a school that is painfully slow in its methods. I am waiting for the bus in front of me to move forward so I can unload the kids. The previous school that I had just left only minutes before does not mind if I drop off the kids when there are other buses in the queue, but here, it is only the first bus that can do this.

All the kids on my bus were patiently waiting to disembark. The bus in front of us was slow and had already been unloading for several minutes. Only one kid came out at a time and it was clear that there were still dozens more to go.

One of my students knows that the bus holding up the line was full of kindergartens. For these newest students, the steps on the bus are just at the limit for them to climb, which explains well the slowness of their departure off the bus.

So I decided to quip and said that buses should be like dump trucks. I should be able to get to the school, back up, and then dump all you kids and drive away.

One girl liked the idea, especially if they were dumped into a pool.

But today was rather cold, and I mentioned it is probably a bad idea. So, it was agreed that they should be dumped into a foam pit.

The bus all rang in unison of this plan. I will submit my idea of a school bus dump truck to the Board of Education tomorrow!
