The things that I can learn as a school bus driver are amazing. It has been over 30 years since I have been a student in the educational system, and there have been some stunning and fascinating changes in that time. So when the children on my bus talk, I am listening.
Karate was invented as a martial arts technique in China over four hundred years ago. It wasn’t until a little over a century ago that it moved into Japan, modified and popularized, and is widely regarded now as a Japanese style of fighting with “empty hands” – the meaning of karate.
Or so I thought.
Admittedly, I am old school, but I know enough that I do not know everything. I am also open to change if given sufficient evidence. The other day, on my bus, the topic of karate was brought up. A student began spreading the knowledge he had acquired through our school system and made the statement that would change my life, rewrite history, and astound scientists for centuries to come:
Dinosaurs know karate.
In fact, they were really good at karate.
Amazing.
This completely changes everything.
Thank you, children, for teaching me something new every day.
