The kids are amazing.

As a bus driver, I see these young minds develop and grow.  Watching this fruition into adults brings great joy to my heart.

But I also see the difficulties some children have to suffer—sad moments like what happened on my bus today.

It has been known to me that a couple of the children will be having a birthday today.  They will be celebrating with a birthday party on Saturday.  It was brought to the group’s attention that they were discussing their weekend plans and that a third birthday party was also happening for someone who does not go on this bus.

My focus is on driving.  As a bus driver, I must remain immersed in my bus operation in a  safe and reliable manner.  But that was hard when I heard the pain in the voices of the young children who were sitting behind me.

How are they going to go to three birthday parties in one day?

This question remained unanswered when they departed.

The challenges that face today’s youth are significant.  Difficult choices must be made, and only they will reap the reward or suffer the consequences.

As a bus driver, I only see a small tidbit of their lives.  This dilemma, if it really is as serious as they made it, shows that the kids on my bus have good lives.  The most challenging choice is which party to go to, and not whether there is enough to eat, or safety concerns, or health issues.  I hope they know how lucky they are.

And I would like to know why I wasn’t invited!

Potato Bar

When we’re out and about and it’s time to head home, our last stop is usually Harvey’s. I love this hamburger restaurant’s meat patty, which is customizable with many topping options. It’s been my go-to when the hunger strikes. But then, Charlene’s son shared a…
