This place was so amazing; I only wish that it was bigger.
The Midwest Miniature Museum has been on my “Top Priority List” since I first learned of it. It features some of the most amazing, incredibly detailed miniature versions of life. When Charlene tagged me for an event in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Grand Haven was only down the road a bit of the way, and I finally had my opportunity to check this place out.
The weekend trip to Michigan had Midwest Minature Museum as the top attraction for me. When I make plans, I rarely include my wife, Charlene, in them. She likes the surprise of where we are going. It adds to the appeal; she can never be disappointed because she does not know what to expect.
I envy this. I put in a lot of research planning going here or going there so I have an incredibly good idea about what we are to see; there is rarely a surprise, and if there is, it is one of disappointment that the destination didn’t deliver.
Not this museum.
I knew I would look at little things, but it delivered in a big way that I wish there were more to look at.
Our guide told us a bit of history about their masterpiece of a fictitious town that was created and its detailing. She showed us a cut-out of a blue lady that would represent scale. Each time something was scaled down, it would become more difficult to show its detail. The smallest scale is 1:144, used as a miniature inside a miniature display. For instance, a doll being held by a mini-girl.
For a small museum about small things, it had several other visitors when we were there. It does attract a large gathering, and it is worth the price of the small admission.
To be ADA compliant, they must build an elevator to the second floor. When that happens, they can display more of these tiny art creations.
This is a “Must Stop” when in the area.
