Yeah, Charlene ain’t too happy with me in this picture.

I took this when we were travelling out east last summer. We were visiting Queen’s Wharf in Charlottetown, PEI. There is a structure that encourages the placing of love locks.

When I first heard of these, I loved the idea and wanted to do it in as many places as possible. The idea is to write your names on the lock, symbolizing your love for each other, lock it to a bridge or something else, and then throw away the key. If, for whatever crazy reason you want to break up with your other, you will need to find the key and unlock it, but since the key was tossed and lost, you are together forever.

I am fine with that.

I like my wife and I rather enjoy our time together whether that is sitting on the couch or going somewhere new.

But to be on the safe side, I have taken Charlene to many of these places where we have locked our love together, that if she ever wanted to change her mind on how she feels about me, she cannot possibly remember them all and cannot break the locks of our love.

But in this picture of my beloved wife standing in front of the Love Lock Sculpture in Charlottetown, she is not too pleased. She may be regretting locking our love together in the dozen or so places all over the continent of North America. You see, I forgot to replace the locks that I keep in the car for these very situations where we might need them. In fact, I have kind of been slacking on buying more locks. Inflation has raised the price of these things and I was beginning to wonder if it was really worth the expense of buying more.

Seeing her reaction at this location, maybe I should go and buy some more!

  • A unique expression of love that we have not seen anywhere else was in Ithaca, NY at Ithaca Falls. Here, people take flat rocks paint their names and place them at a central location. I really like this idea and am surprised it isn’t found in other places.
  • Our first location where we locked ourselves together and threw away the key was in Bancroft, ON. on August 29, 2019. We would go back there a couple of years later during a fall colours tour and found our lock was still there.
