It has been a while since I posted about recent trips. Much of my free time is spent researching and creating new destinations. One of the primary reasons for all this planning to travel and the actual travelling is because of our current vehicle.
Years ago, when we discovered the joys of travel, we had a Prius. It is the perfect vehicle for touring. Fuel efficient and a nice ride, we went places in that machine. But it wasn’t as perfect as I wanted, especially when I discovered that there are some roads no Prius should ever drive down because of its low clearance, and we found the joy of camping. Our adventures were taking us farther and into more remote destinations, so we needed something more suitable for our needs. That is when we chose the Toyota Rav4.
Trading in the Prius for the Rav4 was a sad day, but we have not looked back. Today marks the third year of having this small SUV. In the past 156 weeks, we have put on 158,000 kilometres. One huge chuck was last summer when we took a trip to Alaska and back, adding 20,000 plus kilometres to the odometer. This summer, I expect to rack up the miles again with a tour of the east coast of Canada and parts of the USA.
Our Rav4 has been nothing but reliable. Other than replacing tires, several oil and other fluid changes, a scratch mark from a buffalo with an itch on its head, a few dents caused by flying rocks, and a windshield or two, we have yet to make any repairs—not even the brakes! Our vehicle is why I can comfortably plan an excursion each weekend for the next four months.
I look forward to all the places we can go because of Rav4.
